Why be bothered about fuel consumption? 5 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I was wondering why people get so worried about fuel consumption and less concerned about other costs for the car that negate any saving? It seems a lot of people buy a diesel but dont think about either depreciation or cost of servicing, or just other general running costs. Sometimes it appears -

I have just bought a 2002 Volvo S80 and am wondering if it is possible to run the car without the full headlamps on? I find that if I turn the rotary switch to parking lights when driving only the side lights come on then, but in this mode it is all to easy to leave the lights on all the time. I -

Tyre Life - Budget or branded 6 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I have a 'V' reg 1700cc diesel corsa (bought last September), which is used as a cheap to run motor. It now needs a pair of front tyres. Now, ordinarily I would go to my local fitter & buy the cheapest they have, but I am wondering if this is false economy in the long run? What us the general -

Kia Picanto - do you have one? 11 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Hi, I'm considering buying one of these (with the 1.1 engine). We've had a decent test drive and we're very impressed. As the car will be shared with SWMBO I'll be using it every now and again for a 125 mile each way run that is mainly motorways and dual carriageways. I'd appreciate real life -
Metro exhaust blowing 7 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Call me stupid if you will but I have a question that is probably soo darn obvious but Wifes 1993 Metro (cue laughter), runs fine when rolling along, when stationary (ery?) engine runs a bit rough, has been known to cut out, have just noticed small holes appeared in silencer from corrosion. Would I -
Terrano 2 tyre wear 26 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Anyone out there running a Nissan Terrano 2 built within the last couple of years? Do these cars still leave the factory with the front wheel geometry mis-set, needing re-alignment by the dealer to prevent horrendous and uneven front tyre wear? I ask because I have run both a 1993 Maverick -

Car for student 7 Jul 2004 (Forum)
A friend's daughter aged 19 at University asked me for advice about buying her first car. Absolute top price is £3k. She was staggered at the potential cost of insurance. I suggested a Fiesta, Micra or Nova because of relatively cheap running costs but there is the problem of street cred -
Engine rotation - which way? 26 Jun 2004 (Forum)
mind - is it the camshaft operating the valves in the right sequence that means the engine cannot run backwards? So if say on a very simple engine the inlet and exhaust manifolds were reversed, and the fuel fed in the 'exhaust', would it run the other way round? -
