  • Charging a battery 20 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Flat battery on my Herald... I realise this is basic, but how long should I leave my battery on charge? It is a 40ah battery and the charger on low setting reads 3 amps. Does this mean I should leave it on for 13 hours? Thanks for your help.
  • Charging batteries 7 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I've flattened the battery on my Yamaha YZF750 and I'd like to know if I can charge the battery in situ. If I try to remove the battery my Datatool alarm goes off, but I'm a bit wary of charging it on the bike and maybe zapping the electrics. Any ideas?

  • Battery voltages 29 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I have always checked various batteries for state of charge by measuring their voltage (when rested for at least 8 hours) using a good digital voltage multimeter. I have several graphs of voltage v. state of charge and have assumed that a battery in good fettle would have a voltage of approx. 12.6

  • Nissan Almera - Battery charge fail light 19 Apr 2015 (Forum)
The red charge light on my Almera comes on Intermittently. The battery sometimes struggles to start the car. If I charge the battery, the light no longer comes on. I can't make up my mind whether the battery has had it, or whether the generator is intermittently failing to charge. Does the red
  • Changing the battery on a modern car 2 Mar 2014 (Forum)
It seems that with some newer models, the new replacement  battery needs registering to the car. Also, if it not replaced correctly, it can spike the electrical system. Does this mean that you cannot order a battery from your friendly suppliers and fit it yourself? You have

  • N/A - Gadgets that eat batteries 28 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Can anyone explain why so many electronic gadgets which run on two AA or AAA batteries decide to stop working as soon as the battery voltage is down to 1.47 Volts? The nominal battery voltage is 1.5, brand new ones usually read almost 1.6, why do the manufacturers not design
  • Mercedes-Benz SL280 W129 1997 - Charging the battery. 27 Jan 2011 (Forum)
To overcome the problem of a low battery when the car has not been used for several weeks, I plan to fit a charging socket inside the boot so that I can recharge the battery regularly with a mains charger. Is it OK to charge the battery with a mains charger when the battery is still connected

  • Morris - Calcium batteries with a dynamo equipped Minor? 9 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I need a new battery for my '58 Minor. The price of a GM battery is very tempting, but I note it's described as 'calcium technology'. I know that calcium/silver batteries are designed for specific modern charging systems. There are no indications of special requirements in the GM parts book
  • Same old battery. 15 Jul 2001 (Forum)
While nearly breaking my back lifting the battery out of my sons car I had this thought: Car batteries have never changed in basic design for well over a 100 years, you would think by now there would be advances in battery technology to give us something smaller for cars, just look how small
