VW Polo (Y) 1.4 TDI squeaky noise 17 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Hello! A couple of days ago (after another hard evening trying to survive after-work traffic) I've noticed a weird squeaky noise coming somewhere from under the car. - It is not rev related or gear related. - If I apply the brakes the noise stops (even if the car is still rolling, i.e. applying -
What is it with motorcyclists? 23 Aug 2005 (Forum)
motorist has then to brake and make space rather than hit the motorcyclist. - While waiting at traffic lights, pull alongside the leading car. When the lights change they cut across into the path of the car not realising that the car is also pulling away at the lights. A very interesting manouver -
omega problems? I'm not sure! 12 May 2003 (Forum)
driving at all various speeds the car handles a treat until you take your foot off of the accelerator, then the rev counter immediatley drops back down to idle speed (around 700 rpm) and there appears to be no engine braking at all, Down hills especially with foot covering brake pedal it feels like car -
Nearly a fright ... 25 Sep 2001 (Forum)
The AX was due an oil & filter service today, so I asked Madame if anything needed looking at. She said the brakes were making a strange noise. Sure enough the nearside front was making a whoosh whoosh noise as the car came to a standstill. Ever since we sold her Citroen CX, she has criticised -
Suzuki Ignis - Servicing 19 Oct 2023 (Forum)
Hello, I am about to buy a Suzuki Ignis for my daughter. I service my older motorbikes and cars. Are any self-service manuals available so that I can at least undertake the simpler tasks such as changing oil, filters and replace service parts such as brake pads and shoes. -
Kia Proceed - Kia Proceed 18 Jun 2022 (Forum)
Anyone have experience of these (the newer 'shooting brake', not the old coupe)? I think it might suit my needs. I appreciate it's a Ceed underneath and will be all the things a Ceed is; just wondering if anyone has experienced one and noticed any particular good or bad points. -
Hyundai i30 N - Higher profile tyres 9 Jan 2021 (Forum)
Does anyone know if smaller wheels / higher profile tyres can be fitted to this car? I realise the brakes are normally the issue. I seem to be on an endless quest to find a sporty reliable comfortable car for 5000 miles per year. -
Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 27-10-2018 Part 1 28 Oct 2018 (Forum)
Re - Roll model, Does the correspondent really mean he has no brakes in that scenario? Surely the footbrakes still operates, albeit without vacumn assistance, in that situation? If not, it seems a major flaw. -
Peugeot - Handbrake and handbrake light issue 23 Aug 2018 (Forum)
Hi. If the handbrake light is out are the parking brakes supposed to be engaged in any way, even if the handbrake lever is not fully down? Just that a firm I’m working for has found the pads have overheated on the rear wheel and are trying to make me pick up cost. -
Ford Transit 2011 RWD - Hiow does the auto handbrake work 22 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Just taken delivery of my new RWD Transit. Fascinated to learn how the handbrake is applied automatically when the vehicle is on an incline. Is it applied to the propshaft or are there electric motors on the rear disk brake calipers? -
Volvo C30 - groaning noise back of car 13 Oct 2014 (Forum)
While waiting at temporary lights, handbrake on, on an incline a 'groaning' came from the rear of the car. I put my foot down on brake pedal and it stopped. Without obvious witty comments any ideas as to cause ? it seems handbrake related. -

Automatics-Drive or Neutral? 14 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Just been wondering, in the interests of transmission longevity, what's the best method when stopped at a red light or in queueing traffic with an auto? Slip it into neutral or leave it in drive with the parking brake on? (unless the guy behind has his front foggies on-then give 'em a tan I say!) ;-) -

A pointless screw? 13 Aug 2008 (Forum)
What is the point of the single, countersunk, machine screw used to hold a drum brake in place? I mean, the drum is hardly going to fall off when you consider it's also held in place by the wheel nuts. To me, it's a pointless screw, unless anyone knows otherwise. Are there any other examples?
