What do I need to know when driving from UK to mainland Europe in an EV?

What should drivers be aware of travellng from the UK to destinations in mainland Europe in an EV? I have friends who have driven distances of several hundred miles to Spain, France (made that journey myself) Italy etc. in petrol or diesel vehicles but wondered what the situation is with electric vehicles and whether the charging points and payment or app systems are similar to the UK?

Assuming you already have a charging payment system set up, either through a card or an app, a good starting point would be to check the website for your charging partner which will show charge point locations in Europe, or partner charging groups that you can also use with your payment system. We would also suggest looking at your route and other areas you are planning to drive through and check the charger coverage there also - we would suggest using sites such as chargemap.com/ , shellrecharge.com/en-gb and www.zap-map.com/
