91 2.0 problem with handbrake light - Gregory II
The handbrake light on my uncles car does not go out. It seems to work fine with the handbrake alone, but once the foot brake it applied it stays illuminated. What might cause this?

Try checking the brake fluid. On most cars this light is also a low brake fluid warning light.

I have checked is and it does not seem to be the case. I am assuming it is a short circuit or a poor contact of some sort perhaps?

Pad wear warning light?

This car does not have a pad warning light following enquries with the local toyota garage. I have checked the pads anyway and they seem to be within limits. I haven't checked the rear drum brake: perhaps I should open the hub once I get a set of jacks and a lift for the car?

The handbrake light doesn't double up as a brake light bulb failure warning light does it?

It did; the rear brake light bulb was changed but the light re-appeared. I am lost now!
