Volkswagen Golf (2013 - 2020)
GTD 2.0 TDI 5dr Hatchback
Excellent and boring at the same time
After a year with my Golf Mark VII 2.0 TDI SE, I can report that overall the car is very impressive. Ride is magic carpet, reliability outstanding and even the fuel economy is panning out well after 13,000 miles with a long
term average of 58mpg (up from 51 at first). Power delivery is superb in Sport mode with effortless acceleration. Character a bit lacking, perhaps the Golf is all too "grown up" these days.
The only real bug bear is the radio, which compared to my previous MarkIV Golf sounds harsh and tinny. Dealers glaze over at the mention of this and VW themselves say there is no "fault".
No fault indeed, but I suspect in trying to save weight they have compromised performance in this area. I have seen some forum comments where others have struggled to get a "good sound".
