Volkswagen Golf (2013 - 2020)
GT 1.5 TSI Evo
Avoid like the plague
I am speaking specifically about the 1.5 TSI Evo. I have the same common misfiring issues as many other people have had. VW brought out a software update which I think was aimed at reducing the massive jolting it initially did. For some people this may have 'fixed' the misfiring issue, however, I am uphill and on to a 50mph road every morning when the engine is still cold. As soon as the car hits 20,000 revs the engine begins to misfire. The engine maintenance light comes on and occasionally the engine goes in to limp mode. I've been told by the dealership that this is a 'rare' fault, however, it's my opinion that every engine of this type still has this issue. However, most people probably don't have the opportunity to truly test the engine out when the engine is still cold like I do. Once the engine is warm it's a nice car to drive, but they can't fix an engine misfire which happens to me every day. I definitely wouldn't recommend this car.
I'd give the dealership zero out of 5 stars if this was an option. Lookers Teesside are a truly awful dealership in my experience. Non-stop contact when you're thinking about buying a car, deathly quiet when there's a problem.
