Volkswagen Golf (2013 - 2020)
1.2 TSI 110ps 6 speed (2016 model)
Incredible value for money
Got this car after some years earlier testing a Golf 6 for a week. After big 5 cylinder Volvos I found the the Golf a refreshing combination. One day, without planning, I went to the local VW, tested the Golf 7 which was on offer and the next day I signed the papers. I could not have expected a better car for the money.
Almost 8 years later the car has 55.000 km (mostly city and short trips, except some long autobahn trips) and it works perfectly. I have had very few issues with it and I have been following maintenance intervals at VW. Issues:
- Some noise in compression and extension of front suspension at certain temperatures and humidities. Very annoying.
- Small squeaking noise on the drivers window when weather is too dry.
- Had to replace the front discs because they were vibrating insanely with only 9000km. Probably related to the extreme cold temps in Sweden.
Otherwise the car has been flawless both in city and autobahn, with consumptions often below 5L/100km if you are calm and 5,5L/100km with 140km/h - 160km/h in autobahn. In city driving it is certainly more thirsty than I expected, but 7L/100km are achievable if you drive carefully.
The engine feels very nice to drive and lively, absolutely not underpowered for trips.
Biggest regrets: Not getting parking sensors and DSG transmission.
Best thing: Great balanced car for a small family for daily drive and for longer trips. A perfect mix.
Would buy again? In a heartbeat.
