Vauxhall Insignia (2008 - 2017)
Exclusiv 1.8i 4dr
Smooth
Bought this Insignia used a good few years ago. It has been a reliable and comfortable car.
Exclusiv is a basic spec but mines still has the optional alloy wheels, looks as good as any SRi model or above. Inside you still get a lot of electric kit and nice seats. Spacious enough but taller rear passengers find the headroom limited.
Car is nice to drive, slick gear change and supple suspension.
1.8 petrol is not the best engine, reliable enough but feels a little underpowered for the cars size and weight. I do a lot of motorway driving and it seems economical however at around 37 MPG.
Common issues are clutch failure and coolant leaks, thankfully I got these things fixed by my local mechanic for a good price. The rest was just wear and tear in the six years I have had it - brakes, suspension, cambelt and water pump, plus all oil services (essential as with any car!).
Overall a good all round car for the money. Be aware a lot of early diesel cars were used as taxis and have expensive issues at higher mileage. Try a petrol version if your annual mileage is less than 10K. Cheaper to run in the long term.
