Toyota Prius (2009 - 2016)
T-Spirit with 'Solar roof'
Best Car I've ever owned
Depends what you want from a car, of course. But, for me, this ticks all the right boxes. In no particular order:
Assume it's going to be as reliable as the previous 3 Toyota's I've owned.
60mpg on most days.
Zero Road Tax.
A quiet, easy going ride. Not just the low decibel level, but the lack of input needed by the driver.
Being over 5 years old, Toyota UK dealers will service it at a reduced rate. (It's not worth going elsewhere.) Even the Toyota main agent salesman didn't know about this....
Strongly dispute it not being very efficient on motorways. I can never sit at a constant 70mph, where a diesel would be more effective. I'm always going up or down hills, using a spurt of power to overtake, slowing down as someone pulls out.... Did a 1000 mile round trip over a week (to Scotland and back) using motorways and fast 'A' roads. The trip home was 387 miles (on the A1M and M25) and the average was 66mpg - see photo.
Minus points:
Built in satnav is diabolical to use.
FM radio is fairly poor at pulling in stations.
Disappointingly high insurance group compared to my old 2004 Prius.
Update February 2020. I became yet another victim of Catalytic converter theft. (Busy public car park, near a busy tram stop, broad daylight.)
