Suzuki Swift (2010 - 2017)
SX2 1.2
Excellent first car, reliable
Bought as a first car for my son. Both he and my daughter have learned to drive in it. Good points: Reliable, economical, comfortable, easy to drive, cheap to run. Sufficient space for 4 adults. Great to drive, handles like a go kart. Bad points: A bit noisy on the motorway; no air conditioning on this model, needs a few revs to make it go. Seats don't slide back to original position when someone gets in the back [3 door].
It has been a very good car for us and is popular with all of us as a runabout. Fuel consumption is 45mpg round town and up to 59mpg on long runs. It's a hoot to drive with good grip, good handling and responsive steering. The engine spins freely and it's no hardship to make it go with a light gearbox. It also has a spare wheel. The controls are easily understood and you don't need a PHD in astrophysics to operate the CD radio. The boot is a bit small but perfectly adequate for a weekly shop. The SZ2 3 door is a 4 seater and the rear seats are split 50:50. If you need 5 seats then get a 5 door.
