Skoda Octavia Estate (2013 - 2020)
2.0 TDI 150ps SE 5dr
Practical but unfortunately unreliable so far
We bought this car hoping it was going to be a reliable and practical family car. However after just over two years of owning the car, and with only 30,000 miles on the clock, we have ended up paying over £1600 pounds in repairs for a new clutch, fly wheel and particulate filter.
When we approached Skoda about compensation for the clutch failing so early in the cars life they were unwilling to contribute towards the replacement costs. They claim that the Octavia has a light clutch which is easily engaged when your foot is lightly resting on the clutch pedal which causes it to wear.
Having previously owned a Toyota Verso MPV with over 150,000 miles on the clock and no mechanical failures we are left less than impressed with the Octavia, especially considering it’s reputation in the media as a reliable family car. We found Skoda’s response and explanation for the failure feeble also, and it has put us off purchasing another in the future.
Sadly we would not recommend the Octavia to other families due to the poor reliability we have experienced which is a shame considering it’s practical potential.
