Mercedes - the masterpiece of engineering and design

I was thinkimg for a long time which car to get. I did not want to spend a lot but also did not want some simple run around. I was considering all car brands and finally settled to audi, bmw or merc. The car had to be reliable, big, good looking, comfortable, fast, fun to drive. And mercedes tick all the boxes. So after some search I bought one. A 2007 e220 cdi Avantgarde auto. I bought it from used car dealer. I didn't checked the car properly and that was huge mistake. After some driving I noticed some suspension noises. All front suspension and steering parts needed to be replaced. Control arms, ball joints, tie rods. Most of work I have done myself. Then there was some problem with steering rack and brakes were not affective as it should. Moreover I noticed lots of rust underneath. The dealer who sold the car was not helpful at all. Dealer lied about service history, he said it is available online but it was not.
The car itself is very nice drive, everything is build with with high quality (except the seats which are fake leather and gets ripped very early at 70k miles). Also xenon projectors were burned out and the light output is was very poor. The design is amazing and I got many comments from other people saying how good it looks.
Now downsides: rust on rear arched, subframe, and strut mount tops, fuel consumption was total garbage. It was drinking like a cow. In city was at least 18mpg(15l/100km), highway 40mpg. The best combined I had was 27mpg(all driving autside the city). It drinks a lot even when standing still at traffic lights (every 10sec drops 0.1mpg that's 36mpg per hour)
The engine and gearbox are solid as rock and will pass 400k miles mark easily. Mine was just 100k on the clock. But never been serviced properly. That's why I allways had problems. This car if correctly maintained is the most reliable mercedes ever made.
Tips for buying :never buy without full service history, check properly for rust and any unusual noises. Get the latest year possible 2008 or 2009. Make sure it is 5g, not 7g. Check if injector seals are not leaking. If gearbox is shifting gently.
