Mercedes-Benz CLK (2002 - 2009)
CLK 240
Despite a few niggles, I still like it
My CLK 240 convertible has the much unloved 2.6 V6 petrol engine. It's normally aspirated and while not a slouch, is nothing to write home about when pulling away from lights. The real crunch is the mpg which because I don't cover too many miles, I can just about live with. I get 28 mpg on a run and down to 22 mpg around town and I don't have a heavy right foot. The alternator burnt out last year but was replaced under warranty. The gearbox electrical plug oil seals also failed which MB would not repair under warranty (this seal is not covered !) and so cost me £140. Both of these items are covered in HJs review but all this is put aside when the sun shines and the top comes down. The body work and interior are very classically styled, durable and after 8 years still look good. Practically, it is quite flexible given it is a tourer. 4 people can travel in comfort and the boot space is good even when the top is stowed.
