Mercedes-Benz CLK (2002 - 2009)
200 Kompressor Elegance Auto covertible
A proper sophisticated 4 seat convertible
Bought this car to replace a lease car, which the wife uses mainly. Being 13years old the body has aged well and the silver paint job is pristine and seems resistant to wear and tear. The carpets and interior is mint (they are well made inside these Mercs with thick leather and quality carpets). For the base Elegance model its got a lot of kit , although looking at the original bill of sale it had 4.5K of extras. It returns 40+mpg on a run and about 30 round town. Ive only had it 9 months but have done an oil and filter change, which should be a regular occurance with the M271 4 pot engine as it uses 0.8L of oil per 1000km(600miles) no needs regular checks if you pile the miles on. The electric fabric hood is an engineering marvel and very neatly fits in the rear without sacrificing boot space many of these leaky tin top retractibles suffer from. Its so well insulated its very quiet and you could be forgiven for thinking could be inside the fixed head coupe version or an E Class its that quiet.Downsides, the 5 speed box is a bit leasurely, but dont care as ive always been an elbow on the top of door driver so not too bothered. Its the ONLY true 4 seat drop head 4 seater the cheap side of a Bentley..the likes of the A4s A5s 3 series ect just do not compare....you could waft down to the south of France with 4 in comfort...you couldnt do that in any of the others...put the roof up, lift the parcel shelf and you would have enough space for all the soft bags also. You can get a good one for not a lot of money and its worth checking to make sure the timing chain sprockets arent worn, by those who have this 20,000 service interval mentality and let it run low on oil... neglect this at you peril. The only Gremlin is during the hot weather the alarm sometimes goes off but you can switch this off. Its a hoot driving in the recent hot weather all the time and is a bit of a sleeper waiting for appreciation....regrets, yes wish i'd gone for a 320 but will be keeping this one all the same
