Land Rover Discovery 4 (2009 - 2017)
3.0 SDV6 HSE Auto 5dr
Awful Reliability - Buyer Beware
Bought the car from Listers Solihull for family day to day use plus light towing - we do about 14k miles a year, 2k of which is towing an 1800kg caravan.
Car went back to the dealer 4 times in the first 6 months due to water leaking into cabin. Took Listers an age to cure the fault (perished elbow joints from pano roof drain) despite this being a well know Disco issue. Rear heated seats packed up after 12 months. Boot latch packed up after 6 months. But it get worse.
Car engine disintegrated @ 111000 miles - injector on 6th cylinder over fuelling and blew hole in piston. Full dealer history from new up until I bought it; full independent history from then on, 6mthly oil change, annual oil and filter. All schedules adhered to. New engine sourced and fitted, that destroyed itself 2 months later when cam shells rotated and stopped oil flow to the engine. This last engine under warranty, but it shows what a dog the JLR SDV6 really is. Absolutely shocking build quality from what is supposed to be an iconic global brand. These units are fitted in Jaguars too, so good luck to them!
Given the Disco 5 is also experiencing awful engine issues, it’s no wonder Land Rover are looking to change the Brand advertising.
