Practical and dependable, but little performance and poor economy

Spacious, reliable, practical and dependable.
Poor performance especially when loaded and going up hills.
In my last car, a Skoda Fabia estate 1.9 TDi I regularly saw economy around or above the combined quoted figure (56.5 mpg).
With the Venga, regardless of how I drive it, I am unable to match the urban figures and average only 38.6 mpg - disappointing.
However, happy with the space, service it myself (invalidated the 7 year warranty), but prefer to service my own cars, despite manufacturers making that increasingly difficult, these days.
Inexpensive to buy and despite a few rattles, I am happy overall with this car.
Fancy a crossover, next time around, such as a Yeti or Qashqai, but am put off by all the problems reported by owners etc.
