Hyundai i10 (2014 - 2019)
1.2 Premium SE Automatic
Arguably the best Automatic City Car
When looking for a new small car it becomes obvious that even the City Car category no longer provides a car with small dimensions. Comparison of cars in this class will reveal little difference in overall dimension - all are wider and higher than you think.
Honest John strongly recommended this car in its automatic form whilst other reviewers have somewhat dismissed the i10 automatic for reducing mpg and power. However, this car fully lives up to the praise HJ lavished on it - without doubt it is a superbly equipped small "proper" automatic with a smooth effortless change as one would expect in much larger vehicles. Neither does it lack power - although in avoiding the need for manual gear change automatics are always to my mind nippier in practice. The i10 is certainly a car that holds its own equally on motorways as it does for local shopping trips.
In Premium SE form and with metallic paint (£550 extra) this car is at the very top end of the range on price. Unsurprisingly this particular model currently seems as rare as hens teeth within the Hyundai dealership. But if in a cash position and able to negotiate a substantial discount to help overcome immediate depreciation the features such as sunroof, keyless entry and ignition and bluetooth must make the Premium SE a very desirable choice as a small second car without compromising in any respect on comfort. The four door format (standard) is ideal for giving full access to the back seat for depositing bags and coats. There are undoubtedly better family cars to be found if regular use of the back seat is sought for passengers.
Dislikes - the use of blue as a colourful band across the dash is not to my taste and a little more refinement and class in this area of finish is still required. And leather seats would be a desirable option - available on some of the competition.
