Honda Jazz (2008 - 2015)
1.4 VTEC ES
Totally reliable little TARDIS
I have had three Honda Jazzes, and this one I kept the longest, from August 2018 to Februrary 2024.
"The Silver TARDIS' never once let me down. Apart from needing a new battery on purchase, tyres and brakes, it was 100% reliable. I moved home with it twice, getting wardrobes, double mattresses, and a huge amount of builders' rubble.
The Jazz is particularly good as a roomy runabout in urban areas, is very easy to park and the visibility is brilliant. Although it is rather strained at motorway speeds (the manual pulls 3,000 RPM minimum above 65mph) it took me from coast to coast, city to city, and saw me safely to work and home over the course of four jobs.
Comfort is surprisingly good. The seats are supportive, and there is no other car for practicality of this size than can do so much - the rear seats either fold absolutely flat into the floor, making for a van-like space, or fold up theatre style, meaning you can carry both people and tall objects with the split fold. I have carried a wheelchair, mobiity walker, suitcases and four people to holidays on several occasions. I can't think of many other cars of this size I could have done this with.
Build quality is strong. The doors close with a nice thunk, and the wee car took a real battering and never really looked the worse for wear.
I averaged 45-50 mpg most of the time, although that did go down in winter.
I doubt I will ever own such a totally reliable, bulletproof little vehicle again.
This is a car you can throw life at and it will serve you well. Easy to live with, cheap to run, and utterly reliable.
