Honda CR-V (2007 - 2012)
2.2i-DTEC EX 5dr 4 X 4
Great drive and excellent build quality
Only had the car a week so a bit early for reliability but spoke to the previous owner who had it from new, and she said it was faultless. It is my first Honda (I traded in a 5 series 520d estate) and I am more than impressed! Great build quality and the interior is very durable. It was used as a family car with children and covered 60K in 3 years and looks great inside. There are minor scratches etc, but nothing like some of the reviews that criticize the interior quality. The leather seats are superb and look like new.
The trim is EX with the advanced safety pack, so lots of technology. The advanced cruise control is great and makes for a relaxing drive. The Bluetooth connection to my galaxy S3 was tricky to setup but works fine. The audio, satnav and voice control are daunting when I first read the instructions but my advice is to sit in the car with the manual. Playing with the voice control is fun!!
The drive is great for a front wheel drive car. It corners really well and there is more than enough power. You are up to speed in no time! Its a high vehicle but its stability in corners is impressive. The engine is as quiet as any I have ever driven, including my BMW.
I bought the car from a main Honda dealer (Grantham Honda), who were great. I can understand why Honda dealers are rated so highly.
As I said it is early days, but I am impressed so far and I will give regular updates.
Update 29/1/15
Now had the car for nearly 4 months and the only problem was the drivers electric window not closing correctly. Dealer fixed with no problem. Minor gripes are:
No hill start assist or hill decent control. A vehicle at this price should have hill start assist- the newer model has it as standard I believe.
No low fluid level warning for the screen wash just a dip stick on the filler cap. Only minor, but for a car that was nearly 30K new, come on Honda! Also no service indicators, but again, not the end of the world.
The auto headlights seem very erratic and seem to come on, even in bright light.
Now for some positives:
The drive is excellent and very relaxing. Also more than enough power.
In bad weather it is faultless. We have just had some appalling weather, deep snow and ice. never let me down in snow or ice, even on steep hills. I know its not a land rover defender, but for the average family who want to keep on the road in bad winter weather its faultless! Its a great winter car. The heated seats, demisters and auto wipers make it relaxing to drive on the coldest of winter mornings.
Its a great load lugger. Loads of space in the back. Great for ferrying students and their furniture around!
In conclusion a very capable luxury family vehicle that can take everything the winter can throw at it. It has some minor niggles (like the lack of hill start assist), but the many positives more than make up for this. When I first switched to Honda from BMW, I wasn't sure, but given how versatile this car is, I don't think this will be my last CRV
Update,
Not a problem with my car, but a friend has a 2008 CRV.Not a problem in over 3 years but recently it cut out after pulling off her drive. Problem was high pressure diesel pump. Cost inc. fitting was £1000! Non Honda pump fitted. Cost of Honda part alone was £1800! I hope this is a rare fault.
