Honda CR-V (2002 - 2006)

Amazingly reliable car that costs nothing to own
The Honda CRV has been an amazing car for my family for the past five years. I bought it in 2012 with 33000 miles on the clock and it is now showing 73000 miles. In that time nothing has gone wrong with the car (touch wood) and I think that is pretty amazing for a now 12 year old car.
The things I like about the car:
- Drives like a car, you wouldn't know it was a family 4x4.
- It easily accommodates five in comfort.
- The boot is vast and the car becomes a van with the back seats folded down.
- The 2.0 petrol is not a sports car but it has good torque in 3rd and 4th gears. Also, the VTEC engine means you can go rev high if you need to. Overtaking is fine. Its a nice car over long distances.
- The 4x4 works well when it is needed. We bought it for the rural roads where we live and in snow and muddy roads its fine.
- The interior we have is black cloth and the seats are like new. Everything still working.
- Petrol wise I the CRV does 30/31 mpg on my run to work. I have never had it over that even on a longer run.
What to watch out for:
- Make sure you get the right battery, the CRV does seem to use batteries a lot.
- I changed the plastic bonnet clip for about £3.00 when the bonnet 'holder' seemed to be broken.
Maybe I have been lucky but that really is it in terms of issues. I paid £7000 in 2012 and I have been quoted £2400 in part-ex.
I have just MOTd and serviced the car so I wont be getting rid anytime soon. In fact, I think that I will keep the car as long as it continues to run as it does. I know it will start to look a bit naff but as a winter 4x4 it will be good for another 10 years or till the government forces older cars off the road.
