Honda CR-V (2002 - 2006)
2.0 i-VTEC Sport 4 X 4
A car for all seasons.
My car is an early Mk2, it is now 13 years old and at 76,000 miles, and I am the 2nd owner. It has had a new SRS unit (expensive), new pads and discs and has been serviced regularly. No vehicle is so reliable it never needs TLC and preventative maintenance, but the Honda is very well made, well engineered and uses good quality components.
Driving: A short 1st gear can be annoying but I assume it is for rougher ground and snow, it gives low speed control. A low 5th gear means 4000 rpm at 80 mph, but as this is where the vtec begins to work it means you get a lot in reserve, 6000 rpm is easily reached without any apparent strain in the last 4 gears.
The suspension is fairly short travel springs but well damped, this keeps roll down but gives a firmish ride. The best thing I did was fit a set of Michelin Latitude cross tyres, I cannot recommend them highly enough.
Bodywork: No rust at all, and the paint comes up as good as new. The cloth interior has stood up to a lot of use and the front seats are comfortable for a 700 mile journey. Theres plenty of space inside and a good view out for everyone.
So, my car is very well made, comfortable, roomy, easy to get in and out of, very safe in hard conditions, very good steering, wonderful flexible engine, has climate, armrests, sunroof and the only downside? 28 mpg and £285 RT. To replace this is proving difficult its like a Dakota, one of a kind.
