Honda Civic (2017 - 2021)
1.5T VTEC Prestige CVT 5dr
Have been looking for a keeper since 2012. Found it.
I retired in 2012, which meant losing my company car. As I was used to driving new, that is what I bought.
A KIA Ceed 1.6 as it turned out. Absolute r******. Definitely NOT recommended.
So three years later bought an SUV Mitsubishi Overlander 2.8 Diesel. Good car (brilliant boot!), but not a "drivers" car and very heavy on fuel. Never really felt comfortable in it - too big maybe!.
So we come to late February 2019 and finally found the car we fell in love with.
The Honda Civic, lovely lines, drives superbly, corners brilliantly and the auto gearbox is excellent. Even the red colour is "more" red than the other manufacturer models.
0-60 seems fast enough to me, although I have never timed it and the acceleration has very little lag if you have to get out of a tight spot quickly.
Driver comfort is fine, not brilliant. The wife loves the heated seats.
Has a boot big enough that I can leave the golf clubs in and still do the large weekly shop comfortably which is a real plus. Much bigger than similar models from other makers.
The dealer experience with Stuart Graham Honda was superb by the way.
It is a car made in the UK.
Price included 5 years (62k miles) free servicing.
OK ... the bad ... mostly really minor points.
I do miss not having a front camera (the Mitsu had one). I also missed the heated steering wheel twice since I had it but that is a real first world problem.
For a Prestige model, the inside is a bit "plasticky".
I have never got the Honda App to match my VIN number so it has never worked.
The onboard navigation system is useless as it is too far out of date (there is no more modern one available). I get around this by "bluetoothing" my phone and project Google Maps on the NAV screen instead so it is no big deal to me.
The front seating MAY become an issue as we get older as they are low and difficult to get out of.
Just lately I have tended to get fault lights showing that aren't real faults. This does concern me because how can you be sure it isn't a false positive. Fortunately, it doesn't happen very often.
I can't get used to NOT having a spare wheel. This is probably my main concern.
I have this fear of being stuck with a flat in an area with no telephone signal.
Would I buy another Honda?
Well, a couple of months ago I would have unhesitatingly said yes.
However, as they are now moving their manufacturing outside the UK in 2021 and closing the Swindon factory I definitely won't buy another.
It is about to go for its 1st Service on Monday, so we will see what issues are found.
