Honda Civic (2017 - 2021)
1.0T VTEC SE 5dr Hatchback
Generally Impressed
We traded-in our previous generation Civic 1.8VTEC for the current model, but with the smaller 1.0 turbo engine. I was a little wary at first, found it hard to get my head around the idea of such a small engine in what is one of the bigger hatchbacks around. However, having put in around 8k miles so far, I can definitely say it was a good choice. Having re-set the trip computer when we picked it up, the car has averaged 48 MPG over its time with us. We don't do a great deal of town driving, mainly dual carriage way work in the week and country roads at weekends, so I don't imagine it would be possible to improve on that figure too much. At around the 70-80 MPH mark, the car is very quiet and comfortable.
The build quality is pretty good. After many Company Cars from VW & Audi, I would say the Honda is not quite in the same league with regards to the cabin materials, but is more than adequate. Two things that I would score the car down for would be the seat material which feels very cheap & thin and the ventilation controls. When I try and send warm air just to my feet, the system also sends warm air to the windscreen as well. I don't know yet if this is a fault or a feature, will consult dealer later in year as colder weather returns.
Highlights have been the fuel consumption, the quality of the stereo, the adaptive cruise control works well, the handling is spot-on, the car is spacious and light inside and we have had many positive comments about the styling.
All in all we are very happy with the Civic so far.
