Ford Focus (2011 - 2014)
Zetec 1.0T EcoBoost 5dr Hatchback
Great to drive and pretty economical
Bought this (125ps version) to replace my MK6 1.6TDI Golf (lovely car but the engine hated short journeys and the EGR valve failed. Also the driver's door never fitted properly)
I recently drove it down to Switzerland and found it smooth - comfortable and great fun to drive through the mountain passes (As much as my 1.0L Metro which somehow made it down there in the early 80's - and it only broke down once!)
The economy (of course) fell short of the claims but managed 52mpg (average speed 63mph) on the way down and nearly 49mpg on the way back (average speed 72mph).
I haven't quite finished my town driving analysis yet but it looks like coming out at around 37 - 39mpg
I'm not a fan of some of the interior plastics in the Zetec version - but the seats are supportive and coped well with the 600 mile trip.
No problems with it yet although I did take it in for a £25 health check (before my journey) to my local Ford dealer who I found friendly and helpful.
After 6 months ownership would I recommend it - yes. Driven smoothly you'll get good economy (about 8mpg more than my MK1 1.6 Zetec) but don't expect diesel like figures.
I would have liked a slightly better interior but apparently Ford are addressing this in their 2014 model.
