Ford B-MAX (2012 - 2017)
Titanium 1.6 105 Powershift 5dr Auto MPV
Bad Auto - Finally fixed and now very good
Had this from new, was somewhat disappointed with the handling and gear change but put up with it for over 18 months. The juddering got worse and eventually started a fight with the garage to get it sorted. Found out that various software updates to transmission and power modules had not been done. (Garage said they only do these if customer complains!). This improved the handling but not the juddering completely. They had another go, somewhat better but still not perfect. I was in France for several weeks and searched the net and found out that this is a common problem with this DC Auto system. Discovered YouTube video of Ford Technician suggesting how to 'train' the Auto software. Need an empty straight road (OK in France where I was staying) and basically foot hard down from standing start go through 4 gears then coast to stop then repeat 4 times. Seem to fix it, as I did over a 1000 miles of varied motoring with only the slightest hesitation. Read up on the Ford Tech bulletin for re-training the software if this juddering occurs. Quite a procedure and can take up to an hour to do but does define whether a new gearbox is needed or not. This procedure obviously needs some care by the garage to do it properly.
When I returned from France took it to the garage and went through what I had done. They then took notice and had the car back to try again. This time they got it right and the car is now pretty good. Now have done 2000 miles without problems and enjoying driving the car again. Any owner who has this problem needs to take it back to the garage and complain as it can be fixed.
Have had a couple of 'quality' issues over the last two and a half years that have been fixed but have found it a very practical and comfortable car both for short and long journeys.
