Fiat 500 (2008 on)
1.2 69hp Pop Dualogic 3dr Hatchback
Shame on you, Fiat
We thought that Fiat had resurrected their rotten reputation with this beautiful, stylish car in a market of dreary interiors and meh-styling. It is my first brand new car after 26 years of driving cheap, second hand cars but it really is an expensive "fashion" car, with everything that implies. I wouldn't mind the expensive service bills quite so much if, for the rest of the year, I had nothing else to pay for. But, every year, the bulbs go - headlights, brake lights, numberplate light; the wing mirror cost £250 to fix after it fell off; the brakes squeak; the paint trim is peeling off on the door; the latest is the door handle on the driver's side. We feel anxious and cross whenever we have to take it to the garage. Who has ever heard of a door handle falling off? I don't treat it badly - it has 48k on the clock after 9 years. I get it regularly serviced. It turns heads - everybody adores it, even people who don't like cars. I feel really happy to see it in a carpark but that is all foolish superficiality when you remember the cheap build quality. And now, there's an undiagnosed starting problem. I'm biting the bullet and trying again with something else. I'll never buy a Fiat again.
