Citroen C6 (2005 - 2012)
2.7 exclusive
The best car in the world. And the worst car in the world.
A fantastic car. Really different, interesting and distinctive. Well equipped, comfortable and quiet.
Unlike its German rivals it does not pretend to be a sports saloon with the compromises on comfort that this brings. But still, the handling is surprisingly competent for such a large softly sprung car. The steering is too light, but you quickly get used to that. The ride is sublime and I love the way it gently floats over the worst of british roads.
BUT unlike its German rivals it is delicate and may not be a good long term proposition. The suspension, being computer controlled is over-complicated and the sensors are unreliable. My car suffered a major short in the wiring loom for the suspension computer followed a few months later by failure of the electrics which control, and are part of the hydraulic suspension pump. When things start to go wrong this is where the car's rarity and complexity really plays against you. Six weeks off the road waiting for parts and £2000 later , my enjoyment of this wonderful car has been tainted.
The dealers are truly dreadful. Incompetent at best and quite possibly downright dishonest. There are still some experienced independant specialists around who used to work on CX's and DS's but the problem is they don't have access to Citroen's Lexia diagnostic eqipment .
I always told myself this was a purchase of the heart ...........
