Great car, but make sure you get a good discount

I've switched to petrol from diesel as my mileage is now 12-13k a year and haven't looked back. This is the 2016 manual, facelift model and the updated engine is impressively quiet and smooth, while being quick in a civilised way. Running on Vpower, I'm achieving 47mpg average, which is exactly what BMW claim and on a 100 mile motorway trip at 70, with cruise control set, I'm pushing 60mpg, all in a car which costs £2.5k less than the equivalent 320d.

I went for the sport model, with no extras, apart from heated seats and it has everyone you'd want, including sat nav, phone connectivity and even a proper handbrake. I didn't opt for the adaptive suspension either, but find the standard set up very composed and suitably grippy and responsive on a twisty road.

My only complaint are the standard halogen headlights (daytime running lights and rears are LED though), which aren't great - BMW want you to pay extra for their various headlight options, which would seem to be necessary. The saloon doesn't come with folding rear seats, which are also a charged-for option - fortunately I've managed without them so far, as the boot will accommodate two very large suitcases.

At standard price, this was quite an expensive car compared to an equivalent Mondeo or Insignia. I would recommend engaging with dealerships through a new car broker- the discount I achieved got me a BMW for mid-spec Mondeo money.
