BMW 3 Series (2005 - 2012)
bmw 320d auto
not as comfortable or refined as all car reviews make out and was totally surprised
I have had this BMW 320d auto for over a year now and bought it from my local BMW dealer with 20k miles, I have always wanted to own a BMW because of reading all the good reviews from all the car mags and t.v programs about the way it drives and handles and of course the build quality,
yes the BMW has the top build quality its solid like a tank with no squeaks or rattles so there is good sound proofing from the outside until you turn on the agricultural tracter like diesel engine, which i thought once warmed up would quieten up to a little more than a hum,but no at idle there is a lot of noise which sounded very agricultural tracter like and vibration could be felt through the pedals on my feet, once the car was moving it was only then that it was quiet and refined but as soon as you the car stopped and was stationery that same agricultural tracter sound and vibration was there again.when the ignition was turned off the engine shook the whole car as if an angry mob outside the car were shaking the whole car, i am 5ft10 and just couldn't get comfortable in my seat because the seats were just too low making you sit too low and flat to the floor and i thought the base of the seat wasn't long enough under your legs for support.the auto gear box is smooth but loses out 7mpg to the manual gear box and also in auto this car is very sluggish even in kick-down.the ride isn't harsh around town but you do notice the runflat tyres, steering is way to heavy around town but its good on the motorway.
