Audi A4 (2005 - 2008)
3.0 TDI quattro 4dr Auto Saloon
Comfortable with excellent traction and handling even on snow and ice. Spirited performance.
I bought this car because I live at the foot of a hill that is untreated in winter. It will climb snow and ice covered hills and handles superbly. It will not of course tackle deep drifts. Handling, acceleration and brakes are excellent. The car is quiet and comfortable, but space for long-legged passengers in the back in insufficient. t It is a little thirsty, returning over 40 mpg only on long runs, but I do a low annual mileage so that doesn't matter much. I resent the road tax, which is exorbitant at £325 for a car that sits in my garage most of the time. Road tax should be abolished and the lost tax should be recouped through high road fuel tax. Service and repairs cost about what I would expect for a 13-year old car, but depreciation is next to nothing. It has only let me down once, when it failed the MOT test with a broken front spring. There was also one occasion when the engine went into (slow) emergency mode. The cause was a faulty injector which the (unfranchised but VAG-specialist) garage identified and rectified.
