50 to 60 seconds. I contacted the smax owners club and they said it might be something to do with Fords "Smart Charge System" (whatever that is?) Is this a feature on the Galaxy or a fault ? The lights do NOT flicker when the car is started Cheers MK3 Galaxy 2.0tdci Ghia
  • Mondeo - mpg 18 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I bought a 2.2 TDCi 155 Titanium x 5 Dr on a 06 plate about 2 weeks ago; everything else on the car, so far! is fine. However, i've noticed that i'm not getting as good mpg as my last 2.0 TDCi 52 plate Mondeo. The specs of the 2.2 show 46.3mpg (from Ford) yet on my car info display it averages

this problem. I have the VIN number, could I ring my local Ford garage and ask him to find out which engine is in the car or would I need something else like an engine serial number? Is it possible the insurers have just got it wrong, and if so, should I argue with them as to the specification?
  • Need help with car choice... 4 Apr 2007 (Forum)
went for the mondeo or Vectra, what are the chances of it reaching its 10th birthday without picking up large repair bills, ie Clutch/suspension. I can get more car for my money with the Ford or Vauxhall but would it be money well spent in the long term?

of his age spares will also be difficult to come by. He was wondering if he would be better off buying say a 1 year old average car (Ford, Vauxhall etc) and keeping it 5 years then repeating the exercise again or buying a "quality" car (BMW,Audi etc) and keeping it the full 10 years.
  • KIA C'eed vs. Focus 21 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Choices, choices... Car no. 1: The all-new KIA C'eed. 1.4 petrol, 110 horse, air, metallic paint, 6 bags & all the usual bits like electric windows, CD and so on. 7 years warranty. Car no. 2: Ford Focus. 1.6 petrol, 100 horse, air, metallic paint, 6 bags & all the usual bits like electric

it clear it was for a company car. They always seemed quite busy both in sales and service. The only bit that never seemed to work were the Fords in the Motorland section - that bit of the business always looked a bit shabby in my opinion. I hope the excellent Skoda team manage to get jobs somewhere
  • Engine running too cool 29 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Just wondering if anyone out there can shed any light on a problem I had many years ago with a Ford truck. (I worked at main dealer then). Driver complained that the cab heater wasn't getting warm. Temp gauge was reading low even after a long run. Both thermostats were changed and radiator

manual & surely many pipes don't last this short nowadays? I own a Y-reg ford Ka which has done just over 41k miles & is still on it's original system despite being used for a mixture of trips. -- Its not what you drive, its how you drive it! :-)
  • Harsh rides! 29 Jul 2006 (Forum)
cars where the ride leaves much to be desired when subjected to our ever deteriorating road surfaces. I read condensed reports in the What Car Magazine where time and time again the suspension is criticised and this even is even apparent in recent cars such as the new Ford Focus and Honda Civic.
  • 1998 R Escort lost keys - please help! 12 May 2006 (Forum)
My younger sister has lost her one and only key to her R-reg Ford Escort (I think it is an LX). I suspect it is the type that has an immobiliser chip in it, since my 1996 Fiesta does. Luckily (or maybe not) the car is unlocked. Has anyone got any ideas as to a cheap way of getting her mobile again

for the fitment of smaller engines, and to be affordable enough to fit in mainstream vehicles. Antonov is also to demonstrate its supercharger at the Zandvoort race circuit, the Netherlands, a week later, fitted in a Mercedes and a Ford Mustang. It expects to sell the device as an aftermarket product for tuners
  • Body Stiffness 19 Apr 2006 (Forum)
compare one car against another e.g. A Honda Accord Vs VW Passat Vs Ford Mondeo. Presumably to do so you would need to know what the torsional stiffness values are and where they are recorded. Can anyone advice where I could find this information. Thanks in advance
  • 50s British Cars in Cuba 14 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Just come back from Cuba. The TV prog 'Life on Mars' takes you back to the Seventies but Cuba takes ou back to the Fifties. The vast majority of motors are 50s U.S. and Ladas but there are a few British motors . I saw an Austin Healey with a Lada engine and a few old Fords, a Zephre 6
  • Focus running temperature 13 Dec 2005 (Forum)
My Wife inherited a "W" reg 2.0lt Focus Ghia two months or so and it came with fsh (not all Ford) and 48k miles. We are very pleased with the car but even after a short run it "Smells" hot. Lift the bonnet and the heat hits you and when you switch off the engine, it creaks with the sound of metal
  • Car for winter 26 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Time to look for a winter runaround. I've a choice of 3 but which one? Ford Scorpio, Omega or SAAB 9000. I've had 2 Saabs b4 but never had the other two so what are they like in comparison. If it was down to comfy seats the Saab would win hands down, but its not. What are the Scorpio & Omega like
  • Brake nipple dust caps 18 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Question: are these really necessary? They're obviously there for a reason, but is it a good one? I lost two last month when I forgot to put them back when changing the fluid. I went into Ford asking for some and they said they don't do them. Seemed odd as I have microfiche and there's
  • Life before MPVs and SUVs 13 May 2005 (Forum)
to remember it wasn't unusual for VW campervans and Dormobiles based on Bedford CFs or Ford Transits etc. to be used for everyday motoring. Maybe these provided a 'getting away from it all' lifestyle statement in the same way that owning a 4x4 does for some people today. Cheers, Sofa Spud
