My brothers 2.7 diesel S type auto. will not start after leaving the battery flat for a long time, everything seems to work but when the key is turned nothing happens (as if you are in Drive and not P or N) any ideas anyone please? -

Can anyone tell me how long a battery should take to charge. I've put two new ones in this car, each went flat, and each have taken 5 hours to charge when they went flat. Is that right?? I thought they would be charged in a couple of hours? -
