My brothers 2.7 diesel S type auto. will not start after leaving the battery flat for a long time, everything seems to work but when the key is turned nothing happens (as if you are in Drive and not P or N) any ideas anyone please?

The immobiliser may have lost it's cade. You need to speak to a dealer regarding recoding. Check with them the immobiliser stops the starter solenoid. It could be the inhibitor switch that is stuck that stops you staring in gear. Regards Peter

Bit random, but is there much fuel in it?
I read a roadtest where the car drove normally but was parked with low fuel only for it not to restart. Jaguar pointed out that its designed to do this to protect the catalyst.
