Solar powered battery charger - RaineMan

I passed a motor spare/accessories shop today and they had a promotion of solar powered battery chargers. These are laid on the dashtop and plug into the cigarette lighter. Basically they seem like a good idea. However although I would not heitate to use one on an older car I was wondering about modern electrics with anti-theft and immobiliser circuitery. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience of these?

First thing you'd have to check is that your ciggy lighter was still live when the ignition is switched off. If not, then the small charge the solar panel produces isn't going to reach the battery.
