TR7 - Buying a seized car 28 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Hi new to the forum, What happens if one buys a car that has been seized? As I understand it the car would have been seized for a different debt as it is old so unlikely to be outstanding finance on the vehicle itself. I'm presuming the car won't have a V5 either -
Most boring car owner? 21 Mar 2006 (Forum)
100% happy with it." So am I the world's most boring car owner? Unique? Or just 'old'? Oz (as was) -
Grand estates 5 May 2020 (Forum)
the T5 which is now worth a fortune in good order. Later cars became a bit too complex and reliability failed under Ford but today’s examples look great inside and out thanks to the Chinese effectively giving Swedish engineers a blank cheque. Not sure I like the complexity though, I prefer my old basic -
How often should I change the automatic transmission fluid in my car? 29 May 2024 (Ask HJ)
My BMW 328i has done 66,000 miles and as it’s now 10 years old I wonder whether I should arrange for the automatic gearbox to have an oil/filter change? -
Mazda 3 - Rust in Mazda 3 24 Nov 2021 (Forum)
old enough to remember rust and welding being a regular occurrence in the 70’s but this is our first modern car with an issue. Anyway, discussing with the indie, he says the subframe rust is not very serious and he can treat it with Schutz for an hour and a half labour and £30 -
Will using a non franchised garage for servicing invalidate my warranty? 14 Oct 2019 (Ask HJ)

Peugeot 508 GT 2.2 HDI FAP saloon - Automatic gearbox failure at 80,000 miles 7 Nov 2016 (Forum)
Bought car 18 months ago at under 3 years old and 75,000 miles, knowing it was out of warranty but took out Peugeot service plan. Delighted with car until last week when "repair gearbox" warning messages started appearing (but no driving issues), apparently on upchanges from 3rd from -
Honda Civic Hatchback - Which car - 2008/15k miles VS 2011/65k miles? 21 Jan 2016 (Forum)
years old but has 65k miles. The latter one looks a lot nicer, has better features etc. But my main priority is reliability and longevity. I want to keep this car for 5 years minimum and will be doing 15k miles per year. I travel a lot so reliability is key. Everything else I don't really care about -

Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 93 1.4 head gasket replacement! 15 May 2009 (Forum)
there changed a head gasket on one of these? Looking at the Haynes manual it looks a tad daunting (I'm also conscious of the fact that nuts and bolts on a 15 year-old car are often a bit reluctant to come off!!). I've replaced the timing belt, pullies, water pump on this car (and much else besides, as previous -
false info on insurance - what happens these days? 16 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I worked in insurance years ago, so I'm out of date. Here's the (short) story. 63 year old man, violent, universally disliked, keeping his old Mondeo on the road out of spite towards his neighbours, even though he's banned. The car is legal at the moment and never moves. The ban expires -
Old car fun and games - accident waiting to happen 10 Sep 2008 (Forum)
used so hardly noted ) and today the second one broke off and within 5 miles he could no longer drive the car and limped into a garage. It was almost at a critical point. The other side was in the same rusty condition and could have gone at any moment. Apparently caused by not needing tracking done -
The old quality v reliability chestnut 21 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Sorry to raise this once again (well I'm not really that sorry) but I read this on a motoring web site and thought it was priceless. I don't want to get into a debate over the poor reliability of certain brands and so have removed reference to the type of car although enthusiasts such as us -
Least depreciating car - £8,500 8 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Hi all, With upto £8,500 to spend, what is the least depreciation car to run for 2-3 years? The criterias are 4 seats, not over 4-5 year-old (anything older and I would worry about electronics) & 50k to 100k on the clock, RWD or with RWD handling characteristics, good ride & handling -
Mondeo - duff speaker connection? 17 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Yet another of those niggely little things that occasionally works/mostly doesn't on the old Mondy Mk2 - I guess it's at a comparable life stage to me! I reckon car years are like dog years i.e. seven car/dog years equals one man year. The LHS front speaker cuts in and out - mostly out - and I -

MINI Clubman - Motorpoint or Main Dealer 12 Apr 2018 (Forum)
SWMBO wants an 18 month old Mini Clubman. Fine by me and the two major sources are Mini dealers or Motorpoint. For what are effectively identical cars of age, mileage and specification, the Motorpoint cars are about 2-3% cheaper. The cars are about £14,750 +/- £1,000
