Nissan Maxima QX - Nissan Maxima QX - 64bit

Have just inherited a Nissan QX.

I wasn't sure about the car but Cannot believe how nice it is to drive. The car is 20 years old and everything works perfect on it.

Its big and comfy not a sports car but comes with more toys than my modern car.

Does anyone else have one on here and have any views?

Hopefully positive LOL

I think there are two engines a 2.0 and a 3.0 auto.

I think there are two engines a 2.0 and a 3.0 auto.

Yes, both V6, the 2.0 has 140bhp, the 3.0 has 193bhp. Great cars for the day, very, very reliable (of course this was back when Nissan was a Japanese company, no Renault bits in the Maxima!) and very well equipped. The 2.0 was available as auto or manual, but while there was 3.0 versions made with a manual box, not sure if the UK got them.

Well liked by the press and owners alike back in its day. Just a bit dull to look at and had the wrong badge to be a success in brand conscious Europe sadly. A brilliant every day retro classic.

Had a 2001 QX 3.0V6 many years ago great car but it developed a idle control valve fault which even a Nissan main dealer was unable to rectify. From memory Nissan UK wanted £1,400 for a new ICV I bought one in New York for about £400 however that didn’t cure the problem ( engine wouldn’t idle less than 1,300 ) so when the MOT was due I ebayed it and it was bought by a Russian, apparently these were very desirable in Russia, a status symbol.
I thought the engine was a peach however but thirsty.
Slightly OT it was replaced by a 2001 Merc CLK 320 5 years ago and I was delighted to find that engine even sweeter and better on petrol.

A bit like the rival Honda Legend, I suppose: very good and well-built car but not the image that buyers in that segment wanted.

Shows how savvy Toyota was with the launch of the Lexus brand.
