New XType Diesel Has Broken Down 29 Sep 2003 (Forum)
for no reason or will start and run for approx 10 seconds. What astounds me is why Jaguar are using a Ford Engine/ICU combination that is know to have the above problems !!! The car is with the dealer awaiting a repair and probably a new ICU PS the Diesel, when running, is a lot quicker than the 2.5 V6 XType -
How Cold is Cold? 26 Jun 2003 (Forum)
control'. I should know the difference but I'm afraid that I don't so there it is! (It has no thermostatic setting control) Having read recent contributions to backroomland about AC, I have been dutifully running the AC system regularly to keep parts lubed and servicable. I have also noted that some -
LPG Problem - Rover 820 6 Jun 2003 (Forum)
leaving the Ferry in France the car refused to run on LPG. It starts up fine on Petrol, but as soon as the LPG system switches over automatically the engine stops dead immediately. At first she thought the v.hot weather in France was the problem, but when back in the UK it still would only run on Petrol -
Mature student seeks cheap thrills... 18 Mar 2003 (Forum)
. For those that don't know, I currently run a 1986 2.0i Auto Granada. This, whilst being an excellent, trouble free (touch wood), rattle free, comfortable car will be far too expensive to run when I start my course. So, I am looking for a small, economical, well-specced diesel (preferrably turbo -
VW Polo+Pierburg 1b3 carbs 13 Jan 2003 (Forum)
My wifes 1989 1043cc Polo(60k)suffers from idle stalling in the warm up period, usually after about 5 min after starting or a couple of miles running. This is annoying especially at jcns, roundabouts etc. A few mins later the problem goes and the car runs perfectly. This occurs in the months oct-apr -
Golf Mk 2 - Lots of repairs needed! 3 Nov 2002 (Forum)
shot? And also the previous owner says it will only run on LRP but I'm sure I read somewhere that Mk2 Golf's can run happily on unleaded without any modifications - but then again I read a lot of stuff And finally the heater only seems to blow out cold air - when I put it on, the engine was nice -
ECU repairs - help! 4 Sep 2002 (Forum)
....no need to explain why! Whilst the injectors were in sealed packs, the ECU was in an open poly bag. I arranged for the items to be fitted at a local independent Saab garage, who found that the engine would not run with new (upgraded)ECU. Still runs fine on original ECU. It has been taken to a pukka -
Land Rover 25 Oct 2021 (Forum)
SILs 2017 Land Rover sport ...think it's a diesel... has an engine warning light on. The car runs ok but a visit to the dealer got a quote of...wait for it...£5000 to put right. Bit ironic really as a mate of mine bought an early (2004 if my memory is working) Freelander for a few hundred -
Kia Sorento - Tyres 20 Aug 2021 (Forum)
I need 4 new tyres for my Sorento. I drive on gravel tracks and main roads - occasionally motorways. I am willing to pay for quality tyres with good grip in the wet, quiet running and reasonable fuel economy. Falcons have been suggested. What would your reccommendation be please? -

Buying a runaround 27 Mar 2021 (Forum)
Hi... I need to buy a second-hand 'runaround' that serves the purpose of picking up the kids from school while our 'main car' is doing the commutes. So I need it to be safe, reliable, cheap to run and under £1,500 . Is that realistic and, if so, what should I -

Vauxhall Astra Estate - Diesel decarbonising 19 Oct 2018 (Forum)
I am considering an engine decarbonsing service on my 1.9D (90,000 miles) for £75. This is supposedly hydrogen-based, "burning off 75% of the carbon deposits that prevent your engine running smoothly". I am getting 45mpg at present and there are no obvious problems -

N/A - Electic only cars 9 Jul 2018 (Forum)
Thought provoking letter in the Daily Mail. What happens if you are stuck in a blizzard for hours in your limited range EV. Presumably you will very quickly run out of battery for drive and heat. At least with conventional fuel that would not be the case unless you were stupid -
low mileage service requirements 3 May 2018 (Forum)
Since retiring my mileage has dropped to 6k appx a year on a 2.1 diesel engine. Would you continue with the normal servicing routine or moderate it to take the lower mileage into account? I run it up the motorway once or twice a week for 15 miles or so -
