I find myself in the sorry position of having purchased a "new" tuning kit for a Saab 9-5 (consists of new injectors & remapped ECU), and finding that the ECU has not only been fitted before but is faulty.
The tuning kit is a genuine Saab item, retails at £825 but I bought it online for £225....no need to explain why! Whilst the injectors were in sealed packs, the ECU was in an open poly bag. I arranged for the items to be fitted at a local independent Saab garage, who found that the engine would not run with new (upgraded)ECU. Still runs fine on original ECU. It has been taken to a pukka Saab dealer for diagnostics today, turns out that the ECU has been fitted before and is definitely faulty.
I have checked the FAQ sections on this site & phoned a couple of companies but no-one I've found so far is prepared to fix this unit. Does anyone either have a tame wizard who can, or a unit they wish to sell which works??
I am of course attempting to retrieve said £225 from seller but having trouble contacting him....can't think why!

Well, turns out there is a god after all!
I spoke to a Saab specialist who suggested I investigate whether a Saab dealer could provide an exchange unit. Bingo! £143+VAT for a genuine Saab unit, so after fitting I'll still have saved £400.
Meanwhile, there's still the task of wringing the money out of the rat who conned me!

If you bought it on an auction site you have come-back thru them and their organisation. They are keen to preserve their good name, and will take vigorous action against site users who may have failed to comply with their rules in particular and consumer law in general. Glad you got the car running, now get your money back! Did you pay with a credit card by the way? This gived you some protection against fraud or poor quality goods.

I bought it on Ebay. I've had a quick rummage through their information but it all seems to be about whether buyers & sellers are nice people and was the auction conducted in a gentlemanly manner, rather than what was actually supplied. They have lots of get-out clauses, including claimimg they are not an auction website, they just bring buyers & sellers together....and suchlike. I did pay by credit card, so I am aware this is a route worth pursuing. Thanks for the reminder. At the very least i will have saved £400, but it's still very frustrating!

Useful warning. I know some people that bought camping tickets for Le mans 24H last year on ebay at considerable premium (they were in short supply).
When they arrived at the circuit it was quickly established that the tickets were (good) colour photocopies. Rather spoilt their weekend I understand.

Make sure you give the seller lots of negative feedback. Ebay gives you the opportunity to tell other potential victims that you were ripped off. Make use of it.
