HJ MOT survey Radio 4 11 May 2012 (Forum)
The survey had a slot on the Today programme on Radio 4 this morning. It took a cautious approach to the findings and suggested that the cars that came off worse were the fault of the owners and that items which fail such as lights wipers and worn brakes happen to any car -

TVR Chim - Jacking under the hub OK 2 Jul 2010 (Forum)
I need to do some work on the brakes. Rather than jack up the whole car I was thinking of putting the trolley jack under the wheel hub and jacking that just to get the wheel of the ground. Is this OK to do or could this cause problems (stress on wheel bearing etc)? -
Peugeot 3008 MPV (2009 - ) - ESP and Grip Control 6 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Any Peugeot dealers around who can tell me exactly what these features do. I think that they enhance stability by applying braking to certain wheels but any advice is welcome. Thanks Am thinking of buying a 3008 and maybe will wait for one with Grip Control. -
ABS 25 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I have noticed a number of people saying that they get their ABS to operate, even in snow. My current car, a'98 Almera GTi, has ABS, I've had it for 3 years, and I have had it come in twice, once to test it, the second when I had to brake hard, to avoid someone. So why do other people manage -
Mechanical sympathy. 3 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Apart from myself does anyone use their cars performance, but treat it with care. Not holding the car on a slope with the clutch instead of doing a hill start, waiting at traffic lights with foot on clutch instead of handbrake and neutral, violent last minute braking. Driving over kerbs -

How would I go about changing the ABS sensor on a rear (disc brake) hub on my focus? It looks fairly straightforward but are there any pitfalls or difficult bits I should be aware of? -

Chipping a Diesel 21 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Thinking about 'chipping' the Golf GT TDi. (The 2 litre PD) Bit leggy now at 82K but running perfectly. I'm not looking for massive gains maybe up to 170 brake, but I don't want to be leaving huge clouds of black smoke. If that's the outcome then I definitely won't bother. Anyone got any experience -

Honda Accord UK (1989 - 1993) - 1990 2.0 ALB clicking/whirring. 8 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Acrivated the ALB in the ice last night - a few seconds of clicking/whirring "clockwork" sounds afterwards, seemingly from the front LHS (under the bonnet?). Is this symptomatic of something going wrong? The brakes worked/work fine, BTW. -

Yaris Aircon - regassing warranty cover 13 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Recently bought a Toyota Yaris for wife, car will be 3 years old in October. The aircon seems to take 3 or 4 minutes before delivering cool air and is not as cold as in my car, so I suspect it needs a re-gas. Would this be covered as a warranty fix or is it 'wear and tear' like brake pads? -

A4 Avant 2003 - brake light bulb has blown. Removed the easily (manually) removable side section inside the boot near the light cluster, only to be greeted by the amp and other bits and pieces. Does anyone know what needs to be removed to get access to replace the bulb? Thanks. -

Alloy wheel problem? 2 Jun 2002 (Forum)
The alloys on my car each have a cover over the central hub held in place with a locking screw. When I removed one after a puncture it was covered in sort of crusty white residue. The brake fluid level seems ok. It only seems to be on one wheel - which now seems to be corroding. The others are fine -
Knocking on 306 2 May 2002 (Forum)
I have a 1996 peugeot 306 1.9 diesel which is great but I can feel a faint knocking/clunking through the pedals when not accelerating. Also when I brake the car vibrates quite noticeable. These problems have both got worse and I'm fairly sure they are connected as I replaced discs and pads -

The clock symbol/warning has appeared on my beemer. I have been told that this is an annual thing - warning me that the car should be taken in to the garage to check the fluid levels for brake fluid etc. Don't they check these as part of the service? Surely I can check these things myself
