I have a 1996 peugeot 306 1.9 diesel which is great but I can feel a faint knocking/clunking through the pedals when not accelerating. Also when I brake the car vibrates quite noticeable. These problems have both got worse and I'm fairly sure they are connected as I replaced discs and pads with no improvement. Any ideas?

Often failed lower suspension arm bushes (front). Common job on the 306 at anything after 60K.

Thanks. Is that potentially dangerous and needs to be fixed right now?

Not exactly dangerous but can lead to wandering, clunking and rapid tyre wear.
Best get it looked at for a proper diagnosis because it still could be something else.

Not a bad job until the bushes seize onto the wishone.......more swearing/hammering/chiselling/grinding. Not nice.
Oh, just remembered, the bushes aren't available as a seperate item from Peugeot. We got some from a factor, IIRC.
Complete lower arms were expensive on Guy's 306 TD so we went for bushes.

How Guy loved that 306!

If I recall correctly, it means "if I recall correctly"! Sorry, Neil, clutching at straws tonight and feeling a bit schoolmasterish. Anyway, more of us should probably use your own ISPKT =I should probably know this .... but perhaps we realise it's taken for granted!
