  A friend has a fiesta as above, with brake issues. When applying the footbrake from any reasonable speed, the pedal travels almost to the floor with no effect, then the wheels lock-up inducing a skid. A cursory inspection reveals the pads and discs to be in new condition

  The front brake pads on my Astra have just been replaced and although the car stops as normal, the pedal travel seems longer / softer than before. The Haynes manual warns that master cylinder problems can be created by pushing the piston back. How can I check if this is what has happened?

  There is a grinding noise when i brake but only at low speeds.I have had new discs,pads and changed an ABS sensor but it is still happening.Only happens when you are going slowly and brake.The ABS light is not on.Please can anyone help we don`t know what to do next?

  I have no real mechanical knowledge but would it be easy for me to change my own brake pads? Is is as simple as removing the wheel and unscrewing the old pads and will I be able to easily see how to remove the existing ones or is more specialist knowledge required.
