In a pinch, my father has used water in the brake master cylinder when he lost all the brake fluid and was miles from home
He said the brakes worked fine for about 5 or 6 corners on a rather twisty country road, though he would had to pull over and open the bleeders to release the steam every so often as they were causing the brakes to lock on once the water had reached boiling point!.
I'll spare everyone the substitute he used when he needed to fill up his radiator when there was no readily available water.
Before everyone gets into a strop, the brake incident didn't occur on UK roads and the country road was so desolate at that time of night, the only person he could have killed or injured would be himself.

Trancer, Was in the same position once with a hydraulic clutch. All I had was a couple of bottles of beer. One bottle worked a treat !

"Actually dont make it right and stupid thing to do."
Well of course that doesn't make it right, I was just explaining that it didn't occur on UK roads so I didn't have lots of people chiming in about how many health and safety and motoring laws he broke.
As for it being stupid, I know he knew the implications before he drove like that, but as he was the one in that particular situation he made a choice based on the circumstances. He evidently thought that driving with the brakes in that condition was a better choice than leaving the truck on the road in an unlit country lane.
I suppose if he left the truck there and someone drove into it killing themselves he would be called stupid (among other things) too so I guess there is just no winning.

My point was you dont know this does not occur on our roads,As a ps *I was not having a pop at you*Only that some drivers would be daft enough to do it.daft and dangerous things happen all the time through driver ignorance
