For any new shape Megane drivers, above is an article from today's paper on a problem that has been discovered whereby the passenger can activate the brakes due to them being modified from left hand drive.
Worth being wary about until a modification is made.

hmmm... modification.
If the mechanism is viewable from the passengers side, the best solution would be to cover it. Hopefully they can attach a cover to the plastic, otherwise it's a case of drilling into the metal out into the engine compartment. A corrosion problem perhaps in the future?

While they're at it the could sort out the the Meganes brake strength. Far too fierce.. either on or off, over servoed? very difficult to brake smoothly.
|
Quite right imagos. The brakes are way too fierce.
I tried to activate SWMBO Megane II from the passenger seat, but couldn't do it.

Maybe someone on Renault's technical side is trying to tell the designer something. "OK, if we make the brakes super-sharp, maybe someone behind will flatten that bulge on the car's behind ..."

I think it has a very pretty botty.

RF, I suggested previously that your wife might be worried if she knew how you greeted your car. Maybe I was onto someting! {grin}

Agreed - I drove a Megane once and ending up triggering the ABS at the first set of traffic lights I came to. I drove a lot gentler after that!

I understand that sharp braking is a 'feature' of many french cars. My Dad described his C5 as having 'digital brakes' he used to get lots of inquisitive looks and questions about 'oh, how does that work then?'
|
Ah yes my dads DS, rubber button and all. A gentle caress of the floor bulb required to prevent being thrown thro the windscreen onto that wonderful bonnet admiring the swiveling headlamps as you land gracefully on the road to lay prostrate in prayer at the goggle eyed insect features.
Or as my dad said "watch the brakes son they are (expletive deleted) sharp"
|
Not all Renault brakes are thus sharp. My laguna ones are not oversharp, a little lacking in feel, and a triffle unnerving in emergency* stops. The EBA kicks in and altho this locks the anchors on hard, very very hard, it takes away all brake feel when operating, you cant feel the ABS pulsing and the pedal kinda goes soft. They stay locked on very hard until you take your foot right off the brake where a switch deactivates the EBA. Effective but scary at first.
*the "arghhhhhh Im gonna hit something, hit the pedal with all my force" kinda stop.

I love the dealer's response - "sit in the back, then".
"Doctor doctor, it hurts when I lift my arm like this... what do you recommend?"
"Don't lift my arm like that.."
