Dealer has missed metal on metal brake fault - what should I do?
I took my car (2001 Honda Civic) to a local Honda retailer/garage because I thought my car needed new brake pads on the back brakes as there was a grinding sound. They said the couldn't see any problems or hear the sound and gave me a winter health check form with every ins ticked in the green column for 'good'.
The sounds of metal on metal got worse, so I took it back to the Honda dealer I bought it from, which was 50 miles away. As soon as they got in the car they said 'brake pads', after taking the wheels off they did a health check, which I now understand is mandatory before any work is carried out, they informed me that both the brake pads and discs needed to be changed, and on the form they were down as red for 'urgent attention needed', they pads were on metal and had damaged the discs.
I wouldn't normally seek to build a case but I think this is very serious, should I go to the first dealer or directly to Honda about this?

Tell the first dealer that if it doesn't pay for the replacement discs and fitting (just the discs, not the pads), then you will sue for the cost of its negligence using the small claims track of the county court.
