Volkswagen Passat (2011 - 2015)
2.0 TDi estate Bluemotion
Typical Passat
This was a company car replacing a Touran 2.0 TDi (which I was not allowed to have again for corporate reasons). I spend most time on motorways and A roads and carry a fair bit of stuff normally
Impressions - very quiet, very limited colour choice, no reversing sensors as standard which is a real omission, bluetooth on phone very good, radio and ipod stuff good but I miss the 6 disc CD player, gearing 5th and 6th high so you need to drop to 4th or lower to get it accelerating fast. Rolls along the motorway lovely. Narrow roof rails for getting the bike rack on. Paintwork is not great. Takes a long time to warm up in cold weather presumably 'cos it is efficient. Might be bad to drive in the snow.
Front tyres did 28000 miles before changing. Not enough cubbyholes - Touran was great for that. Rear seats can not be removed. No idea where the front of the car is either when parking.
Seats seem OK to me - wife does not complain about them either. Indicated mpg is about 55 - but fuel and mileage suggest 50 or so. Not bad for a heavy car really.
Seems to go round corners and handle a bit better than the old car but I did not choose it to be a boy-racer. I do not use the cruise control much; multi-function display is quite good. Oh - auto dipping headlamps for driving in Europe were not availbale on my model which was a bummer.
Car tax would be low as a private buyer.
Summary - would have preferred another Touran overall as I like short tall cars that i can park but for me it was the best bet of a limited company choice. No complaints - but I will never 'love' it
