Volkswagen Golf SV (2014 - 2020)

Try not to think of the Golf SV as an MPV, but rather a very spacious hatchback, and you won't go far wrong! It's much easier to get in and out of than a standard hatchback. The boot is a practical shape and size. Sliding and reclining rear seats add extra versatility. Rear passengers have limousine-like leg room. The driving position is raised and gives a good view of the road ahead. Visibility, all round, is excellent, compared to most cars these days. My 1.4 TSi averages 47.5mpg (long term).
The only negative, for me, is that tge very compliant suspension, whilst soaking up most road irregularities, does tend to induce more body roll than on lower, smaller hatchbacks.
Overall, a much under-rated car, being quite a rare sight on UK roads! However, it sells incredibly well on the continent. Don't follow the pseudo-SUV herd...checkout the Golf SV.
