Volkswagen Golf (2013 - 2020)
GT 2.0 TDI 5dr Hatchback
Excellent in pretty much every way
This is my 3rd Golf, the others being MK 5s (I've also had an A3 and A1 as other reference points)
It is reflective of the quality of the car that I can only nit pick at small issues because there is so little to complain about. It's a really quiet car, even with the 2.0 diesel, which has noticeably less diesel rattle at start up than the previous VW/Audi diesel cars I owned. The power delivery is smooth and with the supportive sport seats and compliant ride spending the day on motorways is no trouble. Much more comfortable than my previous A1 Sport in every way. The new radar controlled cruise control works really well although took a bit of getting used to.
Minor irritations
- volume control is on the left of the steering wheel when the other audio controls are on the right
- the satnav position is distracting as it is well away from your natural eye line, the pop up solution on Audi A1 and A3s is much better
- there is a strange ridge on the columns which I don't like but I'm getting used to.
The average MPG over 2 fill ups is currently 51 mpg which is unsurprisingly poor compared to the official MPG which should get between 56 and 78 mpg!
3 years/30000 miles servicing was included so it's good value for the next couple of years.
