Golf Mark 7 1.4 GT 138 Manual
A great all rounder, pleasing to drive and low running costs.
Adding a review after 9 years of ownership (second owner).
£35 tax!
Very nice engine, smooth punchy and economical (long term average 50+). When the two cylinder 'eco' kicks in it's very economical and it's kind of 'fun' to see if you can keep it this way on longish journeys. But it's got decent shunt when you want it.
Very nice ride - good balance of comfort and agility. Not quite Ford Focus agility or feel though.
Very nice interior - ergonomics are great.
Good spec - use adaptive cruise now and again. Sat nav good. No unnecessary 'aids'. Bemoan the modern cars with no CD players!
Good for practicality - can have a full size road bike in the back or two bikes with rear wheels removed.
Good visibility
Go indie now for servicing.
Just had the first new battery after 12 years.
Two issues. 1. slave clutch cylinder needed replacing after 5 years. Cost under £200 at an indie
2. Had a throttle body to ECU issue which was completely misdiagnosed by VW dealer (eventually diagnosed as a connector issue between ECU and TB which would have cost just £400). Had my pants pulled down by said dealer.
Confusing information about cam belt changing. VW hanging on their previous 4 years/40k statement based on the previous gen engine (which had issues and justified the change) however researching suggests completely different and much longer between changes.
5 stars below for dealership is NOT based on a VW dealer
