Toyota Auris (2013 - 2019)
Auris Excel 1.8 Hybrid
Brilliant, no matter what the reviewers say, owners know different.
I have now driven my Toyota Auris Excel for 10,000 miles. Having owned over 40 cars including 14 Volvo estates and 3 Porsches amongst that lot, the Auris is probably the best car yet. Rides extremely well, comfortable seating, no road tax, low insurance, no mechanical problems whatsoever and does about 55 mpg with an occasional improvement over long distances. Extremely fast when the need arises. If it was a plug-in, it would be nigh perfect. I have added to its good points by fitting a speed-only GPS Head-up display, which is dead accurate . Speed only, as anything else on the windscreen would be a distraction. If all cars were to be so fitted, it would most probably considerably reduce the earning power of the revenue cameras! Incidentally the one I fitted was the Defi-Link GPS HUD from Amazon £53. Absolute bargain. Up and running in five minutes.
I almost changed to the new Prius until I drove one. No contest. I’ll stick to the Auris until they bring out an upgrade. Incidentally, the Auris deals with snow exceptionally well. The Volvos would only move about a couple of feet and then stick. The Auris just gets up and goes. I think it’s something to do with the way it lays down the power. I would heartily recommend it to anyone considering a hybrid.
